New construction along Vientiane's Mekong promenade and a view of the Chao Anouvong statue, a reminder of history and tradition. King Anouvong (1767-1829) was the last king of the former Lao kingdom of Lan Xang. The Buddhist monks are also a strong reminder of Lao traditions.
